On the day of Pentecost, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, preached an evangelistic sermon before a large crowd, which
resulted in the salvation of 3,000 people. His sermon was reasoned, rhythmic, and balanced in intellect and power. We
will learn about his sermon. 1: He spoke of the works that Jesus had done on earth. Through them, God testified that
Jesus was the Son of God. 2: He spoke of the crucifixion of Jesus. The Jews delivered Jesus to the cross and the Romans
carried out the crucifixion. Peter pointed out that the crowd were responsible for Jesus’ death. 3: He spoke of the resurrection of Jesus. Peter quoted David’s words and testified that God raised Jesus from the dead. Peter’s sermon
caused a revival, which must have excited Jesus’ disciples. However, even though they had experienced a great revival,
they did not try to hold large-scale evangelistic meetings or build huge churches. Rather, what they did was down
-to earth activities. They received biblical teachings from the apostles and devoted themselves to them. They also had fellowship, shared meals, communion, and prayer meetings. Why did they do those activities? This was because in order
to maintain the work of the Holy Spirit that was poured out on the Day of Pentecost, they needed to make these activities
a regular part of their daily lives. We, too, may at times have intense Holy Spirit experiences. However, in order for us to live in the work of the Holy Spirit over the long term, these activities are essential. Let us follow the example of the believers of the early church and continue to engage in Bible study, fellowship, communion, and prayer.
ペンテコステの日、聖霊に満たされたペテロは群衆の前で伝道説教をし、その結果三千人が救いに導かれた。彼の説教は理路整然としたものであり、リズミカルで知性と力のバランスが取れたものであった。彼の説教内容について学ぶ。1:イエスが地上で行った御業について語った。それにより、イエスが神の御子である事を証しした。2:イエスの十字架について語った。ユダヤ人達がイエスを十字架に引き渡し、ローマ人達が十字架刑を執行した。ペテロはイエスが殺された事に対する責任は民にあることを指摘した。3:イエスの復活について語った。ペテロはダビデの言葉を引用し、神がイエスを死者の中から蘇らせた事を証しした。このペテロの説教がリバイバルを起こし、それはきっとイエスの弟子達を興奮させた事であろう。しかしながら、大いなるリバイバル経験をしたにも関わらず、彼らはその後、興奮に任せて、大規模な伝道集会をしたり、巨大な会堂建築をしたりしようとはしなかった。むしろ彼らの行った事は、地味な事であり、使徒達から聖書の教えを受け、それを忠実に守り、また交わりを持ち、共に食事と聖餐にあずかり、祈祷会をしていた。何故、彼らはそれらの活動をしたのだろうか?何故ならば、ペンテコステの日に注がれた聖霊の働きを維持していくためには、地道な活動を継続的に行う必要があったからだ。私達も時に、激しさを伴う聖霊体験をする事があるだろう。しかしながら、長期的に聖霊の働きの中に生きるためには、これらの地道な活動が不可欠である。私達も初代教会の信仰者達に倣い、御言葉の学び、交わりと聖餐、祈りを継続していこう。
