The persecution of Christians intensified in Jerusalem and believers were forced to leave the city. Philip went to Samaria
to preach the gospel, which was a milestone in the history of Christianity. When Jesus issued the Great Commission, he
said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Jesus indicated that there would be three stages in the advance of
the gospel. First, Jerusalem, then Samaria, and then the entire world. In other words, Philip’s evangelization in Samaria meant that the transmission of the gospel had advanced from the first stage to the second stage. At this time, there was friction between Jews and Samaritans, and relations between the two were at their worst. Nevertheless, Philip overcame the wall of hostility and preached the gospel. As a result, through his evangelism, many Samaritans accepted Jesus as their Savior. The following scripture is found in the Epistle to the Ephesians. “Jesus is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.” There are many divisions in the world today, causing battles and turmoil, and Christ is the one who brings peace there. Jesus has removed the separation between holy God and sinful humans. As a result, we are reconciled and at peace with God. Finding peace within ourselves is the starting point for making peace with others. Let us follow Philip’s example and boldly proclaim the gospel of peace.

えたが、これはキリスト教の歴史における一つのブレイクスルーであった。イエスが大宣教命令を出した時、彼はこう言った。「
ルサレム、サマリアの全土、および地の果てにまで私の証人となります。」イエスは福音の前進には三つの段階がある事を示した。
まずエルサレム、次にサマリア、それから全世界だ。つまり、ピリポがサマリアで伝道した事は、福音の伝達が第二段階に進んだ
事を意味する。この当時、ユダヤ人とサマリア人の間には摩擦があり、両者の関係性は最悪の状態にあった。それにも関わらず、
ピリポはその隔ての壁を乗り越えて福音を宣べ伝えたのだ。結果的に彼の伝道を通して、多くのサマリア人がイエスを救い主として受け入れた。エペソ書には「キリストこそ私たちの平和であり、二つのものを一つにし、隔てのかべを打ち壊す」とある。今日世界では様々な分断が進み、戦いや混乱が生じているが、キリストこそそこに平和をもたらす方である。イエスは、聖い神と罪ある人間との間にあった隔てを取り除いて下さった。その結果、私達は神と和解し、平安を得た。自らの内面に平安を見出す事こそ、他者との平和を築くための原点である。私達はピリポに倣い、大胆に平和の福音を宣べ伝えよう。
